A New Generation

“We will not hide them from their children;we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD,his power, and the wonders he has done.”  Psalm 78:4 This past spring we made a push once again to write purpose statements and collect documents to give to our lawyer so we can start a non-profit ministry foundation.  Now that we have handed everything into our legal representative we are just waiting to deposit the seed fund and establish the foundation's bank account.  Then we will…See More

October Ministry Update

Celebration in TordasOn the first Sunday in October we went back to the church we formerly served in the town of Tordas where they held their congregational “Thanksgiving Day.” Keith was invited to be the guest speaker. It was a joy to see this group of close-knit believers all working together to make their church work and glorify the Lord. The children and teens led the music with handbells, piano, guitar, and flute. In fact the teens always lead the greater part of the music since they are…See More

Very Uncertain Financial Times

Many wonder what the near future holds for Hungary's economic future. All of Europe is holding its breath and hoping things will get better. This link will show you how foreboding the cloud really is. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financetopics/financialcrisis/7899304/Hungarys-IMF-revolt-augurs-ill-for-Greece.htmlSome believers will say that the current…See More

You know you are a missionary from Budapest when . . .

You know you are a missionary from Budapest when . . .1. Your three teenage kids ask for their allowance in three different currencies.2. You prefer Euros over dollars.3. You forget the English word for something.4. Your small kids ask, “Do they have McDonalds in America too?” You think that the McDonalds in Budapest is cleaner and classier than in the USA.5. You can’t stand to drink American coffee anymore since it is so weak.6. When away in the USA, you can’t stand to drink US water since you…See More

Becky Waldrup commented on Keith Sellers's blog post 'Rallied by the Command of God'
As I get older, I seem to feel more often just what is described above as the ebb of enthusiasm for humanity. I wonder if that is why older people seem to get grumpier! They have just lived around people for too long! But then, I am no different…

Rallied by the Command of God

Below is an excerpt from James Stalker's 1889 book, Imago Christi: The Example of Jesus Christ. Stalker was a young Scottish pastor when he wrote this work. His comments are still relevant for today. Rev. Stalker strips away the romanticism of missionary and pastoral ministry and brings us face to face with the command of God and the example of Christ.Enthusiasm for humanity is a noble passion and sheds a beautiful glow over the first efforts of an unselfish life. But it is hardly stern enough…See More

What does Christmas mean to Hungarians?

A recent television news broadcast on the M1 TV station (Dec.23rd 7:30 evening news edition, www.hirado.hu) published a statistic on what Hungarians think about the Christmas holiday. Christmas in the USA

The other day we went to an English class held by a Hungarian pastor in his home. Our purpose was to tell how we celebrate Christmas in the USA. I never imagined that Hungarians would ever want to hear about how we celebrate Christmas in the USA. Some like our decorative and culinary ideas so why not throw in some of our spiritual ideas along with the mix? Our decorative and culinary customs are not necessarily exclusive of North America since they were brought in by immigrants from all over…See More

Kids Fishing for Kids

As missionaries you wonder how your kids are doing, whether they are being influenced negatively by the elements and personalities of your target culture or if they are perhaps negatively influencing others. Of course we always hope and pray that they are positively influencing others and can withstand the ever worsening moral depravity around them. Our prayer is to see them sincerely involved in the "fishing for men" which for them is "fishing for teens," their own peers. Rachael our oldest just finished a one year Bible program at the Word of Life Bible Institute in Hungary and has been there serving for 8 weeks of camp ministries. They have seen many youth come to Christ this summer. She has helped as receptionist, translator for summer volunteers from U.S. churches, with music, and as a volleyball coach in sports camp. Kimberly has used her musical abilities on the violin in a couple of churches this summer. Joel recently helped another mission engaged in assisting a public school day camp program. While the other mission's seasoned adult missionary was away Joel was asked to interpret and explain games for their newer missionaries who don't know much Hungarian. These have been a few of the blessings for Mom and Dad in the summer of 2009.

Visits

January 31, 2012We would like to share about one family of the children at risk we have visited. One day we arrived to do the Bible study and both parents were drunk! Another day the father was at work and the mother was drunk with  with several other adults who were also drunk. One of the little girls was there by herself with those adults. We decided to take her to our house for the weekend and call a neighbor to let the mother know where her daughter was, which worked out fine because the…See More
