Ministry in a nutshell--

Our passion: to be servants of the Word, reaching the Nyarafolo people group in northern Côte d'Ivoire with the Good News, and reaching out to the poor through compassion ministries
Our ministry roles:
Glenn: medical technologist/lab director at the Baptist Mission Hospital (cf. Jennifer Hall's page!); Nyarafolo church planter and leadership mentor; field treasurer; Nyarafolo Translation Project business manager
Linn: linguist, Hebrew exegete, director of the Nyarafolo Translation Project
Together: member care (Sharpening Your Interpersonal Skills Workshop facilitators, for French and English sessions; peer responders); compassion ministries ("The Widow's Jar" widows' co-op, sponsoring various young people in school and business, showing mercy to those who come to us); encouraging the Nyarafolo Christian Community.

Raucous Joy

An American friend asked me what would have been the most foreign aspect of our Christmas celebration this year. I was hard pressed to answer: the all-night Christmas Eve service? the all-night dancing? the miracles shared in the testimonies? eating on the benches and the floor? freezing in 57 degree weather? the way baptisms are applauded through singing and dance? the plastic mug we all share for communion? the “poyoyo” celebration dance of all that God has done for us this…

Saturday Morning

Posted on November 6, 2011 at 12:12pm 0 Comments

I have just opened up my book,

turned the first pages, relaxed,

when the “ko ko” sounds behind me

and there is yet another

person at the door for me.

This one, fatherless, wants funds

to go to school, to buy his books,

and prayer to help him through.

I turn to find distraction in the kitchen.

This is my day of rest, sabbat,

my Saturday when patterns change

and life can take a different…

Radical, Counter-Cultural Love

Today Levi* told me a story that grabbed at my heart. I told him that he should write a book, and he said that I am not the first one to suggest this. His journey would turn traditional African marriage values on their heads. It could teach American Christians deep truths. In view of recent reports that a noted American Christian leader has affirmed that Alzheimer’s is sufficient reason to divorce a spouse, we need reminding that the injunction to husbands in Ephesians is this: “Husbands, love… Continue

"Jakiss exulting" shows an interlude between baptisms at Tiepogovogo on Christmas Day.  Jakarija (nicknamed "Jakiss") had just seen his father expressing his faith in Christ through baptism -- and this was a man who had been…

Dear Linnea,    just so happy you want to be in touch.

Thank you for sending the E letters.

My life is blessed beyond measure, and especially having World Venture and others to pray for and cherish.     John 15.1 - 17 was my thought today.  Especially v. 7    Three kinds of fruit -   fruit     more fruit     much fruit.     I remember that every difficulty is an opportunity for God to work.

It was great connecting with you guys on my way through. I was deeply impressed with the quality of missionaries connected to WorldVenture in that part of the world. Thanks for our chat and the soda in the airport.

Sure, I'd be honored to be your friend but I have to confess that I am really clumsy in some of these new systems. If I have a bit of time one of these first days, I'll tell you a neat story .. at least, neat in our estimation but I'm not sure to whom this will go when I click on "send"! No time though now as this is approaching Resurrection Day and we want to celebrate it to the fullest!!! So, we'll ge back later! Wow, we think of you guys often! Have a Happy New Life Day!!

Linnea, there's a feature with this site where you can drag areas of the page around. For example, if you want, you can drag your blog posts to the top of your page so they are displayed on top. Your content is great! Keep it up.

Visits

January 31, 2012We would like to share about one family of the children at risk we have visited. One day we arrived to do the Bible study and both parents were drunk! Another day the father was at work and the mother was drunk with  with several other adults who were also drunk. One of the little girls was there by herself with those adults. We decided to take her to our house for the weekend and call a neighbor to let the mother know where her daughter was, which worked out fine because the…See More
