The Hospital (SCH)The hospital has "adopted" a group of 65 families that have around 8 people per family (over 500 individuals), who are camped less than a mile from our gate. They have virtually nothing but the shirts on their backs. Last night our group worked until 11:30 after seeing patients in the hospital earlier in the day. There are other groups in the city that aren't getting fed yet, but we are using all the people we have so far with this first group. We are also be giving the affectees health teaching on topics including hand washing, water purification and how to make ORS. Soap for bathing and for washing clothes will be distributed and booklets on treatment of diarrhea will be given out.
OM SindhThis group of nationals with whom we've been partnering closely with for years are focusing on providing relief in various forms to people in the Sukkur and Ghotki areas. They have a team of about 25 people working under the leadership of NN, a passionate brother in Christ. Yesterday's activities for their group was as follows:
Four teams distributed 135 relief packets and 4 water coolers to flood affectees at the Rohri Hospital, and fed 300 families. The army has also started providing two soldiers to go with the team that does relief packet distribution. The army told NN, "You guys are the only ones around here who are doing distribution properly," and said OM Sindh is the only civilian group they are sending soldiers with.
LifeLine
LifeLine is a tuberculosis clinic in Sukkur funded and operated by some German believers that has been hosting medical camps for affectees. Yesterday, their mobile medical clinic saw 235 patients (150 in one place and 85 in another). In addition, they've been providing basic health care instruction, plus supplying basic necessities, such as soap, laundry detergent, combs, shampoo packs, mosquito repellant, drinking glasses and plates for eating (some people lost everything), water coolers, etc.
